De foto\u2019s geven een stem aan de sociale en architecturale geschiedenis van de oude zorginstellingen die vanaf de Middeleeuwen in alle belangrijke Europese steden werden gesticht. Soms werden deze instellingen verlaten, maar meestal kregen ze vanaf de 20<sup>e<\/sup> eeuw een nieuwe bestemming.<\/p>\n<p>Het Hospitaal van Lessines is hier een treffend voorbeeld van: het werd gesticht in de 13<sup>e<\/sup> eeuw om een kloostergemeenschap en een dertigtal armen te herbergen. Vandaag is het een museum voor geschiedenis van de gezondheidszorg dat zijns gelijke niet kent.
